A group of students at one local elementary school have been working on a project with other elementary students who are on the other side of the world.

Two teachers at Woodsdale Elementary School in Wheeling have teamed up with Crumlin Primary School in Ireland after they were recruited by a non-profit organization known as JDO.

The organization’s mission is to provide tools and support for long term collaborations between U.S. and foreign schools at no cost. The year long program focuses on four different projects that the students at Woodsdale work on with the students at Crumlin through video calls and Google Classroom assignments.

One of the teachers and her students share how fascinating the experience has been.

”I think it’s important for them to realize that there is a world outside of Wheeling, West Virginia, to hear the differences and know that we are the same.”

Sandy Wiseman – Library/Media Specialist, Woodsdale Elementary School

”It’s really cool because like they’re like almost on the other side of the world, I think it’s really cool.”

Stella – 3rd Grader, Woodsdale Elementary School

”It’s just like real cool to talk to people that have different language, a little bit of different English.”

Kalani – 3rd Grader, Woodsdale Elementary School

Ms. Wiseman says one of the biggest surprises to the class was the fact that the students in Ireland wear uniforms to school.
