    BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio (WTRF) –

St. Clairsville will receive half a million dollars to repair or replace a road that has been badly damaged due to gas and oil truck traffic.

The funding comes from the ODOT Local Roads Oil and Shale Program.

This year’s grant will be for Thompson Drive.

This is actually the second year the city has applied for–and been awarded–the grant.

So last year we first applied for North Sugar Street and this year we applied for Thompson Drive and we did receive those half million dollar grants so we’ve had a total of a million dollars now to rehab those streets. Mainly this program works on roadways that have been heavily damaged due to the heavy trucks in the oil and gas industry.

    Tom Murphy
    Planning & Zoning Administrator

They say Thompson Drive was heavily impacted because of its location along I-70, with easy access to many of the oil and gas well pads south of St. Clairsville.

They will do the North Sugar Street project next year, and the Thompson Drive project in 2027, when the ODOT funds will actually become available
