14 dogs find homes after two local families make donation to Hancock County Animal Shelter

HANCOCK COUNTY, W.Va. ( WTRF ) – Two local families donated over $1800 to the Hancock County Animal Shelter, covering the adoption fees of 18 dogs.

In the last week since these families anonymously donated, 14 dogs have found their forever homes!

Hope Sayre, the shelter’s daily operations manager, says it is so heartwarming to see these dogs find their families.

Sayre says the new owners were so grateful when they found out the fee had already been covered.

“I was super excited because a lot of the ones that they were interested in sponsoring were our long-term residents. And the longer they’re here, even with as much enrichment we do and one on one time, it is still hard for a dog who is very social to be stuck in a cage that long. So, a lot of families had a nice surprise whenever they came in to pay for their adoption.”

There are only four dogs who have not been adopted as a part of this generous sponsorship.

These four pups are all around a year old and the shelter’s longest residents – Cassie , Roo , Crowley and Simon .

Their adoption fees are already covered, they just need a loving home.
