Just because Madonna adds a new coach and QB this year, doesn’t mean the connection will be new. Coach McCune has been coaching the Middle School program for years now, making 2024 a year for reconnecting.

“The senior class has been through 4 coaches in 5 years basically, the turnovers been pretty great with the coaching staff, so bringing in another staff, another system, the freshmen kinda know what we expect, and are show the seniors hey, these guys aren’t so bad, they want to be here we’re all alumni.”

“We’re all here for the right reasons, we got a young QB, if he makes a mistake, can’t get on him, got a new coaching staff, just let em teach.”

    Andre Crossland-WR/CB

“I don’t think I ever planned on being in these shoes you know just happened trying to get myself back acclimated in the community, and now that I’m back around the kids it’s almost addictive.”

Planned or not, McCune is here. Joining him, is a roster with skill, but per usual, not many bodies.

“You just got to beleive and love each other, you sit there and fight you’re going to lose, you just got to beleive you’re going to win no matter how small you are no matter how many lineman you got, we always find a way, we found a way the last 3 years, been short on guys every year but we always had a winning season.”

Even with the winning season, the Dons have missed the playoffs by just 1-seed the past 2 years. This year they feature the aforementioned freshman Maddox Bowens at quarterback, who is joined by a “3-headed monster” in the backfield, comprised of Wesley Molish, Matthew Geer & Connor Carte.

Blocking for them will be a line that returns just 2 starters, in Dominic Maple & Logan Brown. Out-wide speed will be a strength with weapons like KJ Ward, Dre Crossland, Kolten Griskovitch, and then Angelo “The Wolverine” Debrasko.

“I call him the wolverine, he plays cornerback for us and man he’s got the fight in him.”

    John Mccune-Head Coach

Wellsville will be the 1st team that has to worry about the Wolverine when the Dons welcome them to town on August 30th in the season opener
