    Family Service offers transportation assistance for seniors and disabled individuals in Ohio County

    OHIO COUNTY, W.Va. (WTRF) — Transportation is often a huge challenge for seniors and disabled individuals.

    It could be a ride to a doctor’s appointment, the grocery store, or just picking up their car at the repair shop.

    Family Service of the Upper Ohio Valley has vans that can take people of all ability levels wherever they need to go.

    If you’re 60 or over, an Ohio County resident and you can’t drive or don’t have a vehicle. They can get you to your destination.

    So if you have needs where you need to go to Kroger or Riesbeck’s if you live in Ohio County, we can get you there Monday through Friday from 9 to 2. We can take you to doctor’s appointments, hair appointments, your lawyer, the bank, or anywhere you need to go to remain independent. We also do a service where we allow people to go to you know church events, also go to visiting people who may be in the hospital or Peterson.”

    It’s donation-based.

    They send you a letter detailing your miles every month, and you can send the donation of your choice.

    Every trip must be scheduled three days in advance.

    You can use the service long-term or just temporarily while your car is in the shop or if you can’t drive following surgery.

    They even take people to work or to where they do volunteer work.

    They say you’ll always talk to a live person when you call for a reservation.
