CARLISLE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A dress made in part from fabric recovered from the tornado that hit Sullivan last March is now up for auction.

Ashley Anderson is a longtime Sullivan County resident and the avid sewer used clothing she recovered from a friend’s property to create this dress that’s now being auctioned off.

A recovered curtain, t-shirt and other materials were used for the bodice and lining of the dress. Money raised from the auction will go to a family still in need of financial help.

Anderson said the dress holds significance because of all that Sullivan has gone through over the past year.

“I knew every person that perished that day,” Anderson said. “I knew a lot of people who were injured. Went out that night and helped look for people and look for survivors and it was something that really touched us.”

Anderson thinks the dress could be used for a prom.

“I didn’t want to jazz it up a lot with the rhinestones and the bling and everything else. I wanted it to kind of stand out, and stand on its own and for you to look at it and for you to realize there’s something going on with it and there’s a story behind it,” added anderson.

The dress is a size 8, but Anderson said since it has a corset bodice it can be adjusted up or down a size and that she’s even willing to help with alterations.
