Duke Energy announces scheduled outages in Terre Haute

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A scheduled outage from Duke Energy will affect some Terre Haute customers on August 29.

The 333 customers that will be affected were told that crews would be out working from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. District manager Rick Burger says that the planned outage comes after a determination that the equipment needs repair.

“It could cause a larger outage down the road,” Burger said. “Luckily, we catch this before it does become a major problem. I want to stress to people, no, you’re not going to have 8 hours of a planned outage. It will be 15, 20, 25 minutes at a time while we’re doing our work, then we’ll put the circuit back in place.”

While only select customers will be affected, Indiana spokesperson Angeline Protogere shared some useful tips for all customers to save on their bill as the temperature rises.

“If it doesn’t interfere with their health or safety, adjust their thermostat to the highest comfortable setting, because the air conditioner will be the biggest part of an electric bill during the summer,” Protogere said. “The less difference there is between the outside temperature and the inside temperature, the more you can reduce that.”

While the outage and maintenance is planned, Burger says that the window of time gives room to fix any other issues that may need to be addressed.

“That’s why we said in this window of opportunity, eight hours, we’re going to be out there and we’re going to be working on it,” Burger said. “We just didn’t want to give a specific time, because as I would too, I would hold Duke Energy to that time. We know in that eight hours, we’re going to replace these areas that we need to.”

The primary affected area for the outages will be from south of I-70 down to Allendale Hill.
