TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The former editor of a local newspaper received the highest honor bestowed by Indiana’s Governor on Friday.

The Sagamore of the Wabash Award was presented to former Terre Haute Tribune-Star Editor Max Jones. State Senator Greg Goode presented the award.

Jones’ career spanned 49 years and he was the newspaper’s editor for 24 years. He shared what receiving the Sagamore of the Wabash Award means to him.

“Being able to participate in civic affairs and public affairs as a journalist was really a lifelong dream and ended up being a lifelong career, so being able to be recognized with an honor, for me, of that magnitude is really extra special,” Jones said.

He added that his favorite part of his career was the people he got to work with every day.
