UPDATE: Two dead after apparent murder-suicide in Bluefield area of Mercer County

UPDATE: Monday, August 26, 2024 @ 11:41 AM | BRUSHFORK, WV ( WVNS ) — Two people are dead from what law enforcement said was an apparent murder-suicide.

According to a press release from the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a home on Brushfork Road for a report of an unwanted guest. According to the press release, the person who called said an estranged boyfriend of her daughter was at the home and refusing to leave.

While deputies were on their way to the scene, a call came in from a home close to the initial report saying gunshots had been heard.

Once on scene, deputies found one woman in her late 20’s dead, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. While the scene was being processed, deputies were notified of the suspected male shooter being found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound within Bluefield city limits.

The female victim’s family, which included children, reportedly witnessed the deadly shooting. The identities of both the female victim and shooter will not be released due to the nature of the investigation.

An investigation into the shooting remains open.
