ROCHESTER HILLS (WWJ) -- A popular burger place in Metro Detroit is raising money for mass shooting victims.

On Wednesday, August 14 through 9 p.m., the Culver’s located at 92 E. Auburn Road in Rochester Hills will donate 50 percent of their sales for the day to the victims and families of the Brooklands Splash Pad Tragedy.

Deputies from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office and crews from the Rochester Hills Fire Department will be on site to greet customers and assist Culver’s team members.

Restaurant owner Vickie Zielke said after finding out about the shooting, she knew she had to do something to help those affected.

“Neighbors helping neighbors, I feel it’s our job as part of the community, and it’s a wonderful community,” Zielke told WWJ’s Jon Hewett.

The shooting happened earlier this summer on June 15, when a man opened fire at the popular splash pad in Rochester Hills, injuring a total of nine people, ranging in age from 4 to 78.

Authorities say 42-year-old Michael William Nash, of Shelby Township, was the shooter. Nash later took his own life at the home he shared with his mother after the shooting.

The shooting victims have not been identified by the Sheriff’s Department, though they have been named on separate Go Fund Me fundraisers set up for each family.

The splash pad reopened in July.
