(WWJ) — Michigan State Police investigators believe alcohol was a factor in a Lenawee County crash Wednesday night that claimed a man’s life and left a woman in critical condition.

The crash happened around 9:30 p.m. on Tecumseh Clinton Highway in Clinton Township — about 25 miles southwest of Ann Arbor.

MSP officials say a 72-year-old man from Clinton was driving a GMC Terrain north on Tecumseh Clinton when it was hit by a Jeep Wrangler headed south.

The man died at the scene, while his 75-year-old passenger was taken to University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor by Survival Flight. She remained in critical condition on Thursday.

The driver of the Jeep, a 38-year-old woman from Tecumseh, was also taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

MSP officials said alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash, but did not say which driver they believe was impaired.

The road remained closed for several hours while troopers investigated. MSP troopers were assisted by multiple police and fire departments.

    The crash remains under investigation.
