ROMULUS (WWJ) A fight near Romulus Middle School led to a crash involving a parked State Police patrol car.

In a statement on X ; Michigan State Police said Romulus Police requested backup for a “large fight” on Friday (8/30) around 7:25 p.m. on Wick, near Shook.

Officers detained some of the suspects and the rest of them ran into the woods, State Police said.

A Metro South trooper got out of his patrol car to help break up the fight. He parked it with the lights activated, facing west on Wick. A 17-year-old Inkster girl, driving a Chevy eastbound, crossed over the double yellow lines.

She sideswiped the car “causing minor damage.” Police said her passengers distracted her, causing her to lose focus.

No one was hurt in the crash. Impairment was not believed to be a factor. Police cited the at-fault driver.

“We are continuing to see risky driving behaviors causing preventable crashes,” First Lieutenant Mike Shaw said in the statement. “Fortunately, no one was hurt in the crash, but this is the second patrol car that will be out of service for repairs tonight. Please pay attention out there!”

Police have not confirmed any connection between the fight and the school.
