    Massachusetts surpasses number of 90-degree days in 2024

    CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Temperatures got to 90 degrees in Springfield on Wednesday adding to what already has been a hot summer.

    Wednesday saw temperatures well above average across western Massachusetts with Westover Air Base in Chicopee reaching 90 degrees. The average high temperature this time of year is 80 degrees.

    This marks the 21st day so far this year that temperatures reached 90 degrees or more.

    • May: 2 days
    • June: 5 days
    • July: 9 days
    • August: 5 days

    So far this summer there have been four heat waves with three or more days consecutive with highs in the 90s. Compared to last year, 2023 saw 11 days of high temperatures at 90 degrees or more.

    This year there have been 21 days, but that number can still climb as 90-degree heat is possible into September.
