    Chicopee police find illegal gun during traffic stop

    CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A man from Chicopee was arrested during a traffic stop for allegedly driving a vehicle with a suspended license and an illegal firearm was found during an inventory search.

    According to the Chicopee Police Department, detectives monitoring traffic Monday morning observed a vehicle with no inspection sticker in the area of 733 Chicopee Street. A registry check on the license plate revealed the vehicle was purchased 18 days ago.

    Massachusetts state law requires an inspection sticker within seven days of purchasing a vehicle. Officers conducted a traffic stop and the driver was identified as 27-year-old Brandon Reynolds of Chicopee. Reynolds was arrested due to his license to operate a motor vehicle was suspended.

    During an inventory search of the vehicle before it was towed, detectives found a loaded Smith & Wesson handgun in the center console. Reynolds is charged with the following:

    • Failure to Inspect a Motor Vehicle
    • Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License
    • Lights Violation
    • Carrying a Firearm Without a License
    • Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License
    • Possess Ammunition Without an FID
