Springfield Symphony chorus auditioning for new members

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP)– If you’ve ever imagined yourself singing with a symphony orchestra, opportunity awaits.

The Springfield Symphony Chorus is seeking new members and will be holding auditions on three days in September: Tuesday, September 3 and Tuesday, September 10 from 7-9 pm; and September 18 from 8:15 pm – 9:30 pm. All auditions will take place at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 34 Jarvis Avenue in Holyoke.

The chorus will be performing with the Springfield Symphony Orchestra (SSO) for “Heralding the Holidays,” Holiday Pops concert, on Saturday, December 14, 2024; and for a classical concert, “Eternal Echoes,” on Saturday, March 15, 2025. There will also be a Chorus recital in May 2025, and the SSO’s annual Juneteenth concert.

Interested singers are asked to email their name, phone number and email address to Chorus president, Claire Folini, at sschoruspresident@gmail.com .

The auditions will be with Director Nikki Stoia. Auditionees are asked to bring a short piece with piano accompaniment to perform, preferably in one of the following languages: Latin, Spanish, Italian, German, French or Hebrew. English solo pieces are permitted, but pieces in the suggested foreign languages are preferred. Singers are also asked to bring a legible piano part for piano accompaniment.

In addition to performing with the SSO, the chorus also performs in concerts on its own with an accompanist, chamber orchestra, and/or other artists.
