Salon Tragedy: Video Shows Alleged Drunk Driver Crash Into Deer Park Biz, Killing Cop, 3 Others
The Long Island incident happened at around 4:30 p.m. Friday, June 28, in the hamlet of Deer Park. Suffolk County Police said Steven Schwally, age 64, of Dix Hills, was speeding southbound through a Kohl’s parking lot, near Commack Road and Grand Boulevard, before he crossed Grand Boulevard and crashed through the front window of Hawaii Nail & Spa.
Woman seriously injured in single-vehicle crash in Shirley
Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a single-vehicle crash that seriously injured a woman in Shirley on July 1. Gottleb Chumi was driving a 2020 Nissan Altima on eastbound Sunrise Highway at exit 58 when her vehicle struck a guardrail on the right shoulder and then overturned at approximately 5:15 a.m. Chumi, 25, of Hampton Bays, was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
Cops: Purse-snatcher arrested on robbery charge after victim and Good Samaritans corner him in outlet mall parking lot Saturday
The victim of a purse snatching and two Good Samaritans chased down the suspect, who hid behind shrubbery at Tanger Outlets, while other witnesses called 911 Saturday afternoon, according to a Riverhead Police report. Police officers quickly arrived and located the suspect, who now faces a felony robbery charge, police said in a press release issued Sunday.
