FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – The man who was driving a GoKart and was struck and killed in a Fresno County hit-and-run has been identified by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office says the man was 38-year-old Kenneth Owen of Kingsburg.

Officials say on Aug. 24 around 6:30 a.m. dispatch received a call regarding a crash on Mountain View Avenue, west of Peach Avenue.

Emergency personnel responded to find a man, who was the only person in the GoCart, suffering from critical injuries as a result of the hit-and-run.

Deputies with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and attempted life-saving efforts. Despite those efforts, officials say, Owen died at the scene.

Investigators say preliminary findings indicated an unidentified driver, traveling westbound in a Toyota Tacoma, struck the GoKart from behind. Officials say they believe the driver stopped momentarily but then left the scene without offering help.

The unidentified pickup driver has not yet been located. Officers say initial evidence left at the scene suggests the suspect vehicle may be a white, 2012-2015, Toyota Tacoma with front-end damage.

    This is an ongoing investigation.
