Dad, son arrested after son found with gun in Visalia high school

VISALIA, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A student and his dad have been arrested after the student was found with a gun on school grounds in Visalia, the Visalia Police Department said.

Officers say the Visalia Police Department’s Youth Services Officer at Golden West High School was informed of a social media post showing a student with a gun on school grounds on Monday at 9 a.m. The officer immediately located and detained the student with the help of school staff.

After a search of the student’s vehicle, which was parked in the school lot, police say they uncovered an un-serialized handgun in the center console. The investigation confirmed that the firearm was only in the parking lot and never posed a threat to the school.

After this, investigators say the student was arrested and booked into the Tulare County Juvenile Detention Facility on suspicion of possessing a firearm on school grounds, being a minor in possession of a firearm, having ammunition, and possessing an un-serialized firearm.

A search warrant was executed at the home of the student’s father, which police identified as 47-year-old Lincoln Dukes. According to police, officers discovered an illegal marijuana grow, an un-serialized handgun, gun parts, extended magazines, and ammunition. The Visalia Narcotics Investigation Unit dismantled the marijuana grow.

The Police Department says Dukes was arrested and booked into the Tulare County Adult Pre-Trial Facility on suspicion of marijuana cultivation, being a felon in possession of firearm and ammunition, grand theft of utilities, allowing juvenile access to an unsecured firearm, and child endangerment.
