Texas Longhorns looking ahead after losing huge 2025 recruiting battle to Oklahoma Sooners

The Texas Longhorns are looking ahead after learning Wednesday that five-star offensive lineman Michael Fasusi was picking Oklahoma and heading north of the Red River.

The 6-foot-5, 295-pounder from Lewisville, which is just north of Dallas, had narrowed his choices to Texas, OU, Texas A&M, Florida and Oregon. Fasusi is the eight-best overall recruiting prospect in the state of Texas for 2025, according to 247Sports.

It’s a huge recruiting win for Oklahoma coach Brent Venables, who like UT coach Steve Sarkisian is looking to bulk up his line for rugged SEC play.

“I almost committed on the official visit to Oklahoma,” Fasusi said to On3. “That visit to Norman really summed it all up. It wasn’t just me, but my family felt it, too. The coaches did more than impress me, they made my family feel comfortable and we all felt the love.”

The Longhorns’ 2025 recruiting class currently has 16 players and ranks 14th nationally, according to 247Sports. But those who track recruiting understand how those rankings can fluctuate, and nothing matters until players start signing national letters of intent.

The Longhorns currently have four offensive linemen committed for the 2025 class, including 6-foot-6, 320-pounder John Mills from California and a pair of 6-foot-5 athletes. All three players are likely to play mostly guard at the next level.

Sarkisian and the Horns are still chasing four-star prospect Nick Brooks, who is considering Georgia, USC and Texas.

Galveston Ball’s Jonah Williams and San Antonio’s Michael Terry III, both considered five-star athletes, are expected to make their decisions soon, possibly this weekend.
