Former Notre Dame star waived by Kansas City Chiefs, making his NFL future very uncertain

NFL teams are busy trimming their rosters, seeing players being waived and released over the next couple of days. It wasn’t much of a surprise, but the Kansas City Chiefs did waive former Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book on Monday, according to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero.

Book originally began his career with the New Orleans Saints. He was selected by the team in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. During his long year with the Saints, Book started one football game against the New Orleans Saints. That was a contest to forget, completing 12 of 20 passes for 135 yards and two interceptions.

Outside of his one year with the Saints, Book has also spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles, New England Patriots, and most recently with the Kansas City Chiefs. That is largely due to his tremendous career with Notre Dame, where he finished his career with 8,948 yards passing and 72 touchdowns. Book also added another 1,518 yards and 17 scores as a runner.

The California native ended his Irish career with a 30-5 overall record as a starter. Those 30 wins are the most in program history for a starting quarterback.

At least Book got nine slices of pizza to remember the Kansas City Chiefs well, unless the team does choose to bring him back if he clears waivers. Chiefs starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes will clearly remember him fondly, for now. Will this close the book on his NFL career?
