ABILENE, Texas ( KTAB/KRBC ) – An Abilene apartment complex burned in a large overnight fire, leaving residents scrambling to save pets and personal property.

The fire ignited at the Spanish Arms Apartment complex on N 3rd Street and Merchant Street around 3:00 a.m. Monday.

Residents told KTAB and KRBC they awoke to a chaotic scene of smoke and flames. One tenant says she was asleep until a stranger started banging on her window and yelling fire.

Others describe only have moments to grab items as they fled to safety, some even having to leave pets they couldn’t find behind.

The Abilene Fire Department has not provided information on this fire as of 9:00 a.m. Monday, but the complex does appear to be heavily damaged, likely leaving several residents displaced.
