5 things to know about Cedar Point's HalloWeekends including its newest show

Cedar Point has released its plans to scare guests this Halloween season.

And it is pretty much the same as last year.

The Sandusky park has no plans for any new haunts at its annual HalloWeekends that opens Sept. 12.

A couple of the haunts will have new names.

The Clownz: Death Metal Tour outdoor walk-through haunt has been renamed Clowns: Hall of Infamy Tour.

And the Tombstone Terror-Tory outdoor haunt will be called the Tombstone Terror-Tory: Doc McCoffer's Evil Elixirs.

The scariest thing this fall is the announcement that its newest attraction − the Top Thrill 2 − will remain closed as modifications are needed on the park's newest roller coaster.

Most of the park's rides are open during HalloWeekends but some will be closed for staffing and logistical reasons.

It is best to check the park's app for ride availability.

    What's new at HalloWeekends?

Cedar Point has not released all of its plans for HalloWeekends just yet for things like food offerings, however, it has said one show is not returning but a new one will make its debut.

The park plans to offer a new show that highlights its signature HalloWeekends character Mr. Midnight − the keeper of everyone's darkest fears.

The new Midnight's Curse is billed as a "real nightmare" of a nightclub that is filled with "fantastical sights and sinister shocks."

The Midnight Syndicate musical duo is taking the fall off this year and will not have a new offering in its evolving story that blends eerie music with special effects.

The park's graveyard of old rides and attractions along the main midway will have new addition this Halloweekends.

Snake River Falls officially closes on Labor Day. The water ride opened during the 1993 season.

What are the indoor haunted houses at Cedar Point?

Cedar Point will have five indoor haunted houses at this year's HalloWeekends.

The relatively newest one is Midnight, which explores the Book of the Dark that was added last year and goes into the fears manifested by the park's resident spookster Mr. Midnight. It is situated by the Gatekeeper roller coaster and replaced the former witch-inspired Hexed haunt.

The four other traditional haunted houses include: Bloodbath, Fearground Freak Show, Slaughter House and The Haunting of Eerie Estate.

The lines are typically quite long for these indoor haunts, particularly the Haunting of Eerie Estate.

What are the outdoor haunts and mazes at Cedar Point?

Unlike the indoor haunted houses that can have long lines, Cedar Point's outdoor haunts are typically walk-throughs with no waits as characters mingle amongst guests along fog-filled midways and paths.

The exception is the CornStalkers 2.0 that has guests walking along the canal for its water rapids ride that has been filled with cornstalks and creeps that reach out to scare you. The line for this is among the longest in the park.

The other outdoor haunts include: Blood on the Bayou, Clowns: Hall of Infamy Tour, Cut Throat Cove and Tombstone Terror-Tory: Doc McCoffer's Evil Elixirs.

What can young kids do at HalloWeekends?

Most of the park's rides are open for HalloWeekends.

While the park takes a bit of a sinister turn as monsters and creeps stroll the fog-shrouded midways after dark, it is all pumpkins and spice and everything nice during the daylight hours.

The park offers family-friendly shows and activities including appearances by Charlie Brown characters and even a not-so-scary trick-or-treat trail.

Kids ages 12 and under are allowed to wear costumes inside the park during the daytime activities in the park.

Costumes are prohibited for anyone over the age of 13.

Cedar Point's kiddie areas close at 10 p.m. while the park's closing time is midnight.

When is HalloWeekends at Cedar Point?

HalloWeekends runs Thursday nights, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, starting Sept.12 through Nov. 2.

Hours are 6 p.m. to midnight on Thursdays, 11 a.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.

The haunts open in the evening.
