(Ames, IA) – Iowa State incoming freshman, Dwayne Pierce, has announced that he is stepping away from the Cyclone men’s basketball team for personal reasons.

The now-former Cyclone signed on to play at Iowa State on January 22, 2023, and would’ve been entering his first season at Iowa State University. The Christ the King High School player helped to lead his team to a 22-6 overall record and 12-3 in conference play while in high school. According to ESPN, Pierce was ranked with an 82 scout grade as a small forward. He chose Iowa State over other schools including Clemson, Florida State, Illinois, Memphis, and St. John’s.

His statement read, “Dear Cyclone Nation, Thank you for welcoming me from day one, you truly are the best fans. I will be stepping away from Iowa State and the Men’s Basketball program for personal reasons. I want to wish Coach TJ and my teammates well in the upcoming season.”

Head Coach T.J. Otzelberger and the Cyclones will have an open scholarship to use for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
