Go-For-It Raceway suspect pleads not guilty

ANTIGO — Reed Hurlbert, one of the two teenagers arrested after allegedly ransacking and stealing from the Go-For-It Raceway clubhouse, pleaded not guilty to both charges against him Wednesday afternoon at the Langlade County Courthouse.

Hurlbert, 17, is charged with burglary of a building, a class F felony, as well as a class A misdemeanor for criminal damage to property.

Hurlbert and Zachary Pilecky, another teenager, were arrested approximately a month ago following the burglary at the racetrack, which occurred on the night of April 22.

According to the criminal complaint, the pair stole a number of items, including walkie talkies, fire extinguishers, a computer monitor, a TV, and a memorial trophy that had been made in honor of a beloved local racer.

They also shattered a $2,000 sliding glass door and upended a popcorn machine and grill inside the building.

According to Go-For-It owner Joe Acker, the stolen items — including the trophy, which had been broken into pieces and bore a piece of paper at its base with Hurlbert’s name written on it — were later found in Spring Brook.

Following the incident, Langlade County Sheriff’s Office detectives located the UTV that the perpetrators had driven to and from the race track. When questioned by police, Pilecky admitted he and Hurlbert had committed the crimes. While admitting to “ripping around” the track with the vehicle, Hurlbert at first denied burglarizing the clubhouse, then later claimed he had been intoxicated and could not remember.

Hurlbert, who is out on bond, is scheduled for a status conference in the courthouse on July 22.
