Big thunderstorm chances and unseasonably cool for Friday, showers linger for a cool Saturday

Today: Even though there are some small shower chances this morning in the Kittitas and Yakima valleys, the main timeframe for showers and thunderstorms will be into the afternoon and evening. Thunderstorm chances will span across the map today from 60-90%, so coverage will be pretty high. Skies will range from partly to mostly cloudy, and that’ll make us feel even cooler! We’ll already be about 15 degrees below average for late August. Highs will be in the low to mid-70s across the map. Gusts will make it feel even cooler, as they’ll span between 20-35 MPH.

Tonight: A few showers could linger into the very late evening, especially in Yakima and Kittitas counties. To the east of there, skies will start to clear out. This’ll partially help to bring our overnight lows way down! We’ll be chilly with lows in the mid to upper-40s for the Kittitas and Yakima valleys. It’ll be in the low-50s in the Basin and in the foothills. Thankfully the winds will calm down, except some pockets of 20 MPH gusts in the Basin.

Extended: Small shower chances will linger into most of the day on Saturday, especially in Kittitas and Yakima counties. However, thunderstorm chances will go down. Small shower chances could linger into Sunday through Tuesday as well, but we’ll be much drier overall. In light of all this, our highs will finally rebound after another cool day on Sunday. By Monday, we’ll be back to values about 5-degrees below average for late August (mid-80s in the Tri-Cities).
