Increased coverage for Arizona monsoon thunderstorms on Thursday afternoon

According to the Arizona Weatherman, on Thursday, 11 Jul 2024, monsoon thunderstorm activity on the Mogollon Rim and Southeastern Arizona is expected to increase in the afternoon and early evening. Additionally, isolated severe parameters from some of these storms are possible.

While the upper-level high is still in place over Utah, the eastern quadrant places a widespread difluent flow on the Mogollon Rim and Eastern Arizona. This will provide the needed exhaust for these afternoon storms. This will be coupled with moderate to higher instabilities in the region. DCAPE values in the 2,000 range also indicate potential strong gusty convective winds. Therefore, I expect isolated to scattered thunderstorms to impact the Mogollon Rim and move off of the Rim southward through the afternoon hours. At the same time, more convection will also kick off in the Southeastern sections of the state. Expect potential strong winds greater than 60 mph, up to one-inch hail, and localized flooding with some of these storms, especially for Yavapai, Gila, Pinal, Graham, Greenlee, Eastern Pima, Cochise, and Santa Cruz Counties from 1 pm to 8 pm.
