Georgia QB Carson Beck has interesting take on the Heisman Trophy

Georgia quarterback Carson Beck is expected to be one of the best quarterbacks in the country in 2024.

He threw for 3,941 yards and 24 touchdowns with just six interceptions in 2023, which was his first year in Kirby Smart's system. He now has another offseason under his belt and there's a real expectation that he'll be able to take the step from great to elite in 2024.

That's, at least, what UGA is hoping for as the Bulldogs look to get back to championship football. Beck will need to be one of the top quarterbacks in the nation and if so, he should be in the competition for the 2024 Heisman Trophy award.

Recently speaking to "Bayou Time Sports", though (h/t On3 ), Beck explained that he doesn't feel being a Heisman contender would be only about him. To him, it says more about UGA than anything.

“It’s 100% a team trophy,” Beck said. “As a quarterback, my success is very much dependent on the offensive line. It’s very much dependent on how our running backs play. It’s very much dependent on if our defense can get stops. It’s very much dependent on if our wide receivers can go make contested catches. Get open."

Of course, Beck would still like to be a Heisman winner. Despite his thought that it's really a team trophy, it still is considered arguably the most prestigious individual award in all of sports.

Being a Heisman candidate would be a dream come true for Beck, but it's not all he's fighting for in 2024.

"At the end of the day, it is very much a team-oriented goal. But, obviously, it’s not my main goal," he explained. "But, if I was able to get there, obviously it’d be a dream come true."

UGA's last Heisman Trophy winner was Herschel Walker in 1982. Former quarterback

Stetson Bennett was a finalist in 2022. The Bulldogs' last Heisman finalist before him was running back Garrison Hearst in 1992.

According to betting odds , Beck is the preseason favorite to win the 2024 Heisman Trophy at +750.
