Last season, the College Football Playoff featured the Michigan Wolverines, Texas Longhorns, Washington Huskies, and Alabama Crimson Tide. Michigan won the national title over Washington. The Georgia Bulldogs narrowly missed the playoff after losing to Alabama in the SEC Championship.
The Bulldogs sparked discussions on a recent episode of The Paul Finebaum Show . On Friday, Finebaum welcomed ESPN's Bill Connelly to the show. Connelly ranked the 10 most impactful players in this season's College Football Playoff race.
However, the discussion about Georgia was not about a player on the list. Instead, it was about the most crucial position to Georgia. Finebaum stated that wide receiver was a key position for the Bulldogs if they wanted to win a national title.
"I'm curious about one more player, and it's Dillon Bell, the wide receiver at Georgia," Finebaum said. "Because everyone knows about Carson Beck. Everyone also knows who is no longer there. That's a critical position if the dogs are gonna win it all."
Brock Bowers led Georgia with 714 receiving yards, but he is not a receiver. The next closest player to Bowers in that stat was receiver Dominic Lovett, with 613 receiving yards.
Kirby Smart speaks to the media on the first day of practice on Thursday, Aug 1, 2024.
The program lost Bowers, Ladd McConkey, and Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint to the NFL.
Georgia added players like former Miami Hurricanes WR Colbie Young, former Vanderbilt Commodores WR London Humphreys, and former USC Trojans WR Michael Jackson III.
Georgia also returns receivers like Dillon Bell, Dominic Lovett, and Arian Smith.
After being excluded from the playoff last season, Georgia faced the Florida State Seminoles in the Orange Bowl to cap off the 2023 campaign.
With how last season ended, the playoff will be on the minds of Georgia fans everywhere. Georgia plays the Clemson Tigers in its season opener on Aug. 31.
