On Monday, Aug. 12 it was announced that the Miami Marlins have let go assistant general manager Oz Ocampo, as well as other members of the team front office. The news comes just a day after the Marlins beat the San Diego Padres and finished a 2-5 homestand.

Ocampo, who was hired by former Marlins GM Kim Ng, had been working in MLB for about two decades as an executive. He is known for his work ethic with the Houston Astros when he was credited for the team signing Framber Valdez, Yordan Alvarez, and Cristian Javier.

Dan Greenlee, another assistant GM, also got let go. He was in his seventh season with Miami and had a huge role in player acquisition after being promoted to assistant GM in October 2020.

The Marlins additionally let go international scouting director Roman Ocumarez, four other coordinators, and several scouts.

More changes could likely be on the way. Marlins first-year GM Peter Bendix made these "sweeping changes" to the front office and scouting department after it was clear that he would be expected to bring in people of his own. The people let go were hired by Ng and/or Derek Jeter.

It's currently unknown about what Bendix's future structure will look like in the front office. However, one of the people safe in the front office is assistant GM Gabe Kapler, who many speculated could succeed current team manager Skip Schumaker. That could still happen since he has no option for 2025.

Brian Chattin, who is a long-time assistant GM for Miami, is expected to be safe as well.
