Is Ben Sinnott Pushing Zach Ertz Out on Commanders Roster?

Five years ago, this question would be one of the more laughable ones across the NFL.

Zach Ertz has been the pinnacle of consistency at the tight end position for most of his career. As a Philadelphia Eagles star, Ertz had several key moments in the team's run to a Super Bowl - including catching the game-winning touchdown in Super Bowl LII.

Those days are long gone, though.

With Ertz now entering his 13th NFL season, he has competition as he competes for a roster spot with the Washington Commanders . It doesn't help he's currently on his third team in the last calendar year, either.

When Washington drafted Ben Sinnott in the second round, the belief was that he could learn the ropes of the position from Ertz, and eventually replace him after the 2024 season.

Sinnott may be further ahead than anyone thought, though.

The Kansas State product caught three passes for 57 yards in Washington's preseason opener against the New York Jets including a 44-yard completion that saw him break multiple tackles downfield.

Ertz is penciled in as the team's starting tight end at the moment, but the more Sinnott excels in practice and game situations, the more likely it is that the veteran receiver out of Stanford may be pushed out the road at some point soon.

It's not necessarily a fall from grace as Ertz is 33 years old and in the twilight of his career, but it's a reminder that Father Time comes for every NFL player - no matter how great his playoff moments are.
