One of the most exciting football players to ever do it has retired.

Tavon Austin, the West Virginia star and 10-year NFL veteran made his announcement in a Instagram post on Tuesday.

Gaining insane popularity as far back as high school in Dunbar, Maryland, with his unbelievable highlight tapes, Austin had stints with the St. Louis Rams/Los Angeles Rams, Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers, Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills. He recorded 244 catches for 2,239 yards and 16 touchdowns in his career.

While he got it done through the air, what he did with his legs was far more amazing. He's West Virginia's all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards, kickoff return yards, and tied first in kickoff return touchdowns.

There will never be another like Austin. His aura. The speed. The explosiveness. He built something special that made football lucky to have him in it, and he inspired many young receivers, running backs, kick returners, and just flat-out playmakers that followed a similar path.

The game needed what he brought to the table.
