Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is widely recognized as one of the NFL’s top talents, a reputation further solidified by his recent inclusion on several key quarterback rankings by ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky.

In his comprehensive evaluation of NFL quarterbacks, Orlovsky ranked Allen among the best in five critical traits: arm strength, rushing ability, second-reaction ability, pocket presence, and ball placement.

Allen’s highest placements were second in arm strength, rushing ability, and second-reaction ability. Orlovsky praised Allen’s ability to deliver the ball with remarkable velocity and his effectiveness as a dual-threat quarterback, noting that Allen was tied for the most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback last season with 15. These rankings underscore Allen’s impressive physical abilities and playmaking skills.

However, while Allen’s individual statistics have been outstanding—he’s the only player in NFL history to record over 40 touchdowns in four consecutive seasons—these numbers have not translated into the postseason success that the Bills and their fans desire. Despite Allen’s regular-season dominance, the Bills have not reached the AFC Championship Game since 2020, suffering divisional round exits in each of the last three seasons (2021, 2022, 2023) and making the playoffs as a wildcard every year that Allen has lead the team to the playoffs.

This disconnect between Allen’s personal achievements and the Bills’ playoff results raises questions about what it takes for a quarterback to be truly great. While Allen’s skills place him among the NFL ’s elite, the 2024 season presents a crucial opportunity for him to lead the Bills deeper into the playoffs and solidify his legacy not just as a statistical powerhouse but as a quarterback who can deliver when it matters most.

As Allen and the Bills prepare for the upcoming season, the pressure is on to turn regular-season success into postseason victories, proving that Allen’s presence on these elite lists is not just about numbers but about meaningful game production when it counts.
