Steelers Preseason Injury Updates: Fehoko, Fautanu Status vs. Bills

Injuries are piling up at training camp for the Pittsburgh Steelers . Budding superstar Keeanu Benton left the preseason game against the Houston Texans with an eye injury.

We didn’t see the play in which it happened, but he was presumably poked in the eye. He is currently listed as day-to-day. We wouldn’t be surprised to see him playing with a visor from now on.

Rookie right tackle Troy Fautanu is currently out for two weeks with a left MCL sprain. The rookie out of Washington is expected to recover and be ready for the Week 1 game in Atlanta against the Falcons.

Nobody is sure when this injury happened because Fautanu kept playing through it. It wasn’t until after the game that he was seen in the knee brace and the injury was subsequently reported.

They took a big hit on their defensive line when nose tackle Breiden Fehoko went down for the year with a shoulder injury. This is a big blow up front and the Steelers will need someone to step up on the interior of the defensive line to fill that void.

Third-round receiver Roman Wilson is still week-to-week with an ankle injury he suffered two weeks ago in practice. Wilson was expected to fill a slot role for the Steelers this season, but his injury status puts that into question.

On a positive note, defensive lineman Dean Lowry, who had been suffering from a calf injury, is cleared and healthy and was a full participant in practice on Monday.

Running back and kick-returning Cordarrelle Patterson, who was nursing a left hamstring injury, was also a full participant in practice on Monday.

The Steelers had an off day on Tuesday but will return to the practice field on Wednesday as they prepare for their preseason game against the Buffalo Bills on Saturday night.
