NFL Analyst Has Doubt of Jalen Hurts, Eagles Offensive Viability

Jalen Hurts may have been an MVP candidate in 2022 but that doesn't mean he'll ever be the kind of passer who leads the league in many statistical categories for the Philadelphia Eagles .

That's at least what ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky explained to 97.5 The Fanatic Wednesday morning when talking about Philadelphia's franchise quarterback.

Hurts is coming off a season in 2023 that saw him set career highs in passing yards and also turnovers. A big part of that, according to Orlovsky is due to the team struggling to use him as a runner.

“You have to use [Jalen Hurts] as an athlete, you have to use him as a runner," the former Lion quarterback said. "You can’t try to make him Brock Purdy, or Tua, in regards to a pinpoint, anticipatory thrower. That’s not who he is – he can have that as a part of his game, but it is not the identity of his game.”

While it is fair to say Hurts' career and skillset is different from the likes of Purdy or other pocket passers, the idea that Hurts cannot be an anticipatory thrower of the football gets debunked in many games throughout the 2023 season - yes, even though it ended in a collapse for the Eagles.

Orlovsky is not the only analyst to question Hurts' ability as an overall passer, but it's certainly noteworthy that a former quarterback thinks Hurts' game is somewhat limited just two years after he was an MVP candidate.
