Giants Underdogs vs. Texans in Preseason Week 2

As the New York Giants head into their Week 2 preseason matchup against the Houston Texans on Saturday, August 17, 2024, the team faces significant challenges.

Coming off a 14-3 victory over the Detroit Lions, the Giants are looking to build on their momentum, but with injuries and uncertainty at quarterback, they’ll need to be at their best to keep pace with the Houston Texans.

The Giants’ preseason opener saw running back Eric Gray shine with two rushing touchdowns. However, the quarterback situation is a concern. With second-string quarterback Drew Lock sidelined due to a hip injury, backup Tommy DeVito took the majority of the snaps last week. While starter Daniel Jones will see some action, it’s likely that DeVito will continue to lead the offense for most of the festivities.

On the other side of the field, the Texans have already played two preseason games, including a Hall of Fame game against the Chicago Bears. Rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud has shown promise, completing two of four passes for 41 yards in their recent 20-12 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. With Houston gaining momentum the Giants’ defense will need to be sharp.

BET Online has pegged the Texans as favorites, with a two-point spread and a predicted final score of 24-16 in Houston’s favor. While the odds may not be in their favor, New York has an opportunity to use this game to evaluate key positions and continue their preparation for the regular season.

Giants fans should watch closely as the team looks to overcome these early hurdles and solidify its roster. While the preseason is about preparation, a strong performance against the Texans could help build confidence and set the tone for the season ahead.
