The Miami Marlins (45-75) enter Wednesday riding high after shutting out their divisional rival Philadelphia Phillies (69-50) on Tuesday. In the second game of their two-game series, Jonah Bride put the Marlins on the board early with a three-run home run in the top of the first inning.

Bride stepped to the plate with runners on first and second and only one out. Bride fell behind in the count early, watching a first-pitch sinker right down the middle from Phillies starter Tyler Phillips to run the count to 0-1.

Bride battled back, watching two pitches below the knees sail by for balls one and two. Now ahead in the count 2-1, Bride got another sinker in nearly the same spot as the first pitch and pulled it into the seats in left field for his fifth home run of the season.

Bride, 28, is in his third season in Major League Baseball. For his career, he has batted .210/.317/.282 with six home runs and 32 RBI.

Bride entered Wednesday with a .265/.380/.434 line on the season with four home runs, 16 RBI, and a 123 OPS+ across 100 plate appearances in 29 games.

The Marlins acquired Bride from the Oakland Athletics (51-69) on February 7th of this year in a trade for cash. The A's designated Bride for assignment just five days earlier, and the Marlins jumped on the opportunity to add him to their roster.

The Marlins look to complete the sweep of the Phillies on Wednesday night, and Bride has put them in a good position to do so.
