Sean McVay Has One Word To Describe Former Texas Longhorns Receiver Jordan Whittington

The Texas Longhorns were home to one of the best receiver corps in all of college football, but outside of Austin most fans weren't familiar with the third name in that room.

Xavier Worthy and Georgia transfer Adonai Mitchell were the headliners, while Jordan Whittington had more of a glue-guy role. Some of his best plays don't even involve him having the ball as he hustled every time he touched the field, and was willing to block for teammates or dive for fumbles.

The former five-star recruit was plagued by injuries for the first few years of his career in Austin and even contemplated stepping away from football. However, he was really able to put things together during the 2022 and 2023 seasons, combining for for 92 catches for 1,157 yards receiving and two scores.

His strong final couple of seasons and more importantly his grit and ability to make an impact led to the Los Angeles Rams taking him in the sixth round of this year's NFL Draft. While he has only been in Los Angeles for a couple of months now, it is clear that his teammates and the coaches are already liking what they are seeing.

On top of that, he has a chance to learn from All-Pro Cooper Kupp who won the triple crown of receiving a couple of seasons ago, and Pro Bowler Puka Nacua who was a breakout star last season during his rookie season.

Whittington took advantage of his reps in the Rams' first preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys, leading the team in both catches (6) and yards (74). Head coach Sean McVay seemed to only have great things about Whittington, using one word to describe his role in 2024 calling him a "factor".

"He's going to be a factor for us," McVay said when asked about the Texas rookie.

Whittington will have another chance to shine for the Rams on Saturday as they take on the Chargers.
