Preseason Preview: Who Will Steelers Start at QB vs. Bills?

It is game week again for the Pittsburgh Steelers , albeit an exhibition; they are set for a playoff rematch with the Buffalo Bills, whom they'll host Saturday at home. However, even while these games have no consequence on the upcoming regular season, both sides will be looking to bounce back from their preseason-opening loss.
After former first-round pick Justin Fields started at quarterback for the Steelers in their 20-12 loss against the Houston Texans, there are questions about who will get the chance to do so this week.
After indicating that Russell Wilson will play in Saturday's preseason matchup against the Bills following last week's loss, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has recently retracted those comments, leaving it publicly in the air.
"We haven’t determined that yet," Tomlin said Monday about his starting quarterback for Saturday. "We’re Steelers versus Steelers right now. We’ll get to some of that stuff later in the week."

This could be another example of deception from the NFL's most-tenured head coach. However, considering it will be a preseason game, it doesn't make sense to hide whether Wilson will play. This certainly begs the question of what is going on behind the scenes.
Wilson watched from the sidelines after missing the first two weeks of training camp with a calf injury as Justin Fields led the starting offense in their preseason-opening loss. And now, despite having since returned to action on the practice field, he may not see action again.
Wilson's absence on Saturday would suggest he could still be in "pole position" to win the starting quarterback job despite Fields' rather promising preseason debut last week. However, if Wilson is not playing, it could equate to the Steelers feeling like they already know what they have in him.
As for the Bills, they are looking to repeat their sound 31-17 win over the Steelers in the postseason. However, considering their 33-6 loss to the Chicago Bears last week, that will be easier said than done.
After playing quarterback Josh Allen for the first quarter versus the Bears, it is unclear if Bills coach Sean McDermott intends to play him again versus the Steelers.
With the recent signing of former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Ben DiNucci, the Bills now have three other quarterbacks, including Mitch Trubisky and Shane Buechele, who could play in Allen's place.
This makes the question of which quarterbacks will play potentially the biggest storyline to watch when the Steelers and Bills face off on Saturday. Kickoff inside Acrisure Stadium is set for 7 p.m. EST.
