How Much Will Drake Maye Play Against The Eagles Tonight?

The Philadelphia Eagles travel to Foxboro to take on the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium tonight. Questions surround both teams as they try to get their rosters sorted out among other things.

The big question around the Patriots is how much will No. 3 overall pick Drake Maye play.

Maye played sparingly in his first outing last week, and fans are clamoring for him to play more, but the Patriots want to move him along slowly so that he can adjust to the pace and speed of the pro game.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk believes that the Patriots could give him this year to learn and adapt to how New England does things.

“It could be that the Patriots envision a redshirt year for Maye,” Florio writes. “Regardless, fans hope to see something that will make them think he can eventually become the guy. They’ll be hoping to see it tonight.”

Sidebar: As is often the case, it doesn't appear that Florio has a source here, or any particular insight.

So ... Florio knows exactly as much about what the Pats are thinking as you do.

We have seen in the past how allowing a rookie quarterback to learn behind a veteran has been beneficial to their growth as a professional and then play well when they got their chance.

Most recently, you could point to Green Bay, where Jordan Love sat behind Aaron Rodgers before taking the reins last season.

The Patriots are clearly in a rebuild, so there’s no real reason to put Maye out there to win games when he could be learning behind a veteran before taking the field.

For the Eagles, we are sure they aren’t concerned with who is playing quarterback, whether it's vet Jacoby Brissett or dynamic Joe Milton or Maye, as their defense will attack no matter who is under center.

The game kicks off from Gillette Stadium tonight at 6:00 p.m. EST.
