The College Football Playoff expands from four teams to 12 this season, allowing even more chaos down the stretch. The final playoff with the four-team format had the Michigan Wolverines, Texas Longhorns, Washington Huskies, and Alabama Crimson Tide.

Greg McElroy talked about another potential playoff team that he was very high on in a recent episode of "Always College Football." He was "huge on" the Miami Hurricanes in 2024.

He compared Miami to the Texas Longhorns last season. McElroy pointed out how many people doubted Texas and thought it would have a similar outcome.

"...I've been singing the praises all offseason," McElroy said. "I did this last year for a team, and it ended up working out. I love Miami this year. A lot of people are gonna sit there and say, 'It's Miami. We do this every year.' The same people who are saying that right now are the same people who said, 'Well, why are we building up Texas?' ...Miami, on paper, is great. Now, it's just about can they take the next step as a program and not beat themselves?"

There is a lot to like about Miami. The Hurricanes reloaded their offense with transfer portal additions like former Washington State Cougars quarterback Cameron Ward, former Oregon State Beavers running back Damien Martinez, and former Houston Cougars receiver Sam Brown.

Defensive end Rueben Bain Jr., linebacker Francisco Mauigoa, WR Xavier Restrepo, offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa, and WR Jacolby George are some of the top returning players for the Hurricanes.

Miami joined the ACC in 2004 with the Virginia Tech Hokies and is still chasing a conference title. The Hurricanes reached the ACC Championship in 2017 but lost to the Clemson Tigers.

Miami opens the 2024 season against the Florida Gators on Aug. 31.
