Luvu Named As Potential Breakout Player

The Washington Commanders have undergone a complete rebuild of their franchise this offseason. Following a 4-13 season, owner Josh Harris stripped this team down to bare bones and started over. After hiring general manager Adam Peters and Dan Quinn, Washington set upon rebuilding this team.

Defense is the name of the game with Quinn, and throughout his career he has built some of the best defenses around. "Legion of Boom,'' anyone?

That’s why the signing of free-agent linebacker Frankie Luvu might turn out as the best "get'' of the offseason. He has all the characteristics a linebacker should have for Quinn’s system and CBS Sports believes he will be a breakout defender this year.

“Luvu got a decent-sized contract in free agency, but it didn’t come near getting him into the top tier of off-ball linebacker salaries,” CBS Sports writes . “In Dan Quinn’s defense, he has a chance to really shine as a versatile second-level playmaker — especially if Quinn gets creative with his abilities as a blitzer.”

It has been reported that Quinn will use Luvu in a “Micah Parsons-type role” and move him around to get mismatches against the offense to create pressure situations for Luvu.

Being Micah-esque is a lofty goal ... and the truth is, Luvu just being himself figures to be impactful enough. He had outstanding seasons in the last two years, but could truly explode onto the scene with the defensive helpers - and "DQ'' - around him.
