The national championship game last season was between the Michigan Wolverines and Washington Huskies. Michigan came out on top, and the coaches of both teams are no longer at their previous schools.

The College Football Playoff will change its format starting in the 2024 season. Instead of four teams, it will now include 12 teams.

Greg McElroy had much to say about a playoff and national title contender in the Texas Longhorns on a recent edition of " Always College Football ." He let out his frustrations about the team.

McElroy pointed to how inconsistent Texas has been in the past. The Longhorns ended last season with a loss to Washington in the Sugar Bowl.

"Here’s my frustration with Texas,” McElroy said. “You see what they should be, and you see what they could be and what they sometimes are. ... It’s like, you see what they’re capable of. And it’s like, my god, there’s no one — this is the most complete team in the sport, they're winning it. ...But for whatever reason, you don't get that performance every week."

The talent is there for the Longhorns. Quinn Ewers returns at quarterback, and defensive back Ethan Burke and offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. are all back in 2024.

The team also added top talent from the portal, such as former Alabama Crimson Tide wide receiver Isaiah Bond, former Clemson Tigers safety Andrew Mukuba and former Houston Cougars wide receiver Matthew Golden.

Texas looked unbeatable last season until the Red River Rivalry with the Oklahoma Sooners. Oklahoma drove down the field in the game's final minute and scored with 15 seconds left.

The Longhorns then had a seven-point scare against Houston the following week. Texas also had close games with the Kansas State Wildcats, TCU Horned Frogs, and Iowa State Cyclones.

Texas faces the Colorado State Rams in its season opener on Aug. 31.
