Slowing Down? Bryce Huff Acclimating Himself Well to Eagles

Fans of the Philadelphia Eagles were surprised Thursday night when they saw Bryce Huff - the team's big defensive free agent acquisition - playing for most of the first half in their 14-13 win in the second week of the preseason.

Some questioned whether it was a bad sign or not that Huff was seeing game action while other defensive starters were not. In total, Huff recorded three tackles on the day.

After the game, though, the former New York Jet explained the reasoning for him being out on the field in a meaningless game as a projected starter on the roster.

“Coming from a full-on attack front to a new scheme, having (the chance) to see a little more and be aware of it a little more, it helps getting those extra reps in a live game with the speed of the game," Huff explained. "I appreciated those extra reps.”

The obvious flaw in Huff's game coming out of New York was that while he showed he could be an excellent pass rusher, he struggled against the run during his early career.

As he learns the new Fangio defense, getting reps at this time is critical for the 26-year-old. Luckily for the Eagles, their patience with Huff is already starting to show.

"Everything is starting to slow down for me, everything is black and white versus gray and I’m able to see what I’m supposed to see and react to that."

Philadelphia needs Huff to take the next step in his game and become an elite player at the NFL level. So far, it appears he's willing to do whatever it takes to get there.
