Paul Finebaum Names SEC Giant With No Chance At College Football Playoff

This could be a pivotal season for the Florida Gators, who are currently on a three-season losing streak. Their last winning season was in 2020 when they achieved an 8-4 record.

This season could also be crucial for head coach Billy Napier, who has been in charge for two of the three losing seasons. The Gators must show improvement this season, or he could be fired.

ESPN's Paul Finebaum stated the Gators' chances of making the College Football Playoff are slim. He believes they would need to achieve a 10-2 record, but he doesn't foresee any path to reaching 10 wins.

"To make the playoff, they are probably going to have to be 10-2," Finebaum said. "So, when you look at the schedule, you have to find 10 wins on that schedule. I don't know how you do it."

ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI) measures team strength to predict a team's performance for the rest of the season. It aligns with Finebaum, indicating that the Gators will finish far below 10 wins this season with a 6-6 record.

The FPI gives Florida a 0.7% chance of winning the conference and an 8.3% chance of making the College Football Playoff. It is uncertain if Florida is headed in the right direction, but according to Finebaum and the FPI, a playoff berth is not in the Gators' future for this season.
