The concept that nothing is given and everything is earned is familiar to Febechi Nwaiwu.

After redshirting as a walk-on at North Texas, he had to earn a scholarship. From there, he earned playing time and ultimately received all-conference accolades.

In December, he chose to follow his former coach, Seth Littrell, and transfer to OU. It seems that Febechi has assumed a leadership role for a key position group that will be crucial in protecting Jackson Arnold.

He recently spoke about how the offensive line is becoming more cohesive.

On how the offensive line has grown from Spring until now

Febechi: Oh man, we’ve gotten so much closer. I think that’s the biggest thing. This summer was really big for us and even though we have a lot of new guys, I think honestly it helps…we got really close, spent a lot of time with each other, a lot of time watching film, eating with each other and working out. So our O-line group is pretty tight.

On the importance of the offensive line protecting a young quarterback

Febechi: We want all of our quarterbacks to feel like they have all the time in the world [to throw]. With Jackson, we want him to be back there and set the ball down and take a drink if he wants. We want him to have all of his options available, whoever he wants to throw to, just give them enough time to punch it in there.
