The 2023 season was magical for the Michigan Wolverines. The Wolverines won their first national championship in over two decades, secured their third straight Big Ten championship and achieved their third consecutive win over archrival, the Ohio State Buckeyes.

The Wolverines are returning the second-fewest amount of starting players in the Big Ten this season, and they also lost their head coach, Jim Harbaugh, to the NFL. Despite being defending champions, the Wolverines have received a preseason ranking of No. 9, the lowest preseason ranking for a defending champion since Auburn in 2011.

Former ESPN "College GameDay" analyst David Pollack posed a question on X (formerly Twitter) about whether Michigan will return to the College Football Playoff. Pollack believes that we should respect what the Wolverines have accomplished, but it will be challenging with Harbaugh's departure.

"For me, three straight CFP appearances and a Natty are great and worth respect," Pollack tweeted. "Built a championship team with the right blueprint, but the architect is gone along with like 20 other coaches. Tough sleddin!"

Pollack mentioned that Michigan emphasized the importance of building the team around a strong offensive and defensive line, which is why the Wolverines have succeeded. Of the six starting players returning on offense, defense and special teams, only defensive tackle Mason Graham returns on the defensive front for the Wolverines.

On the offensive line, Myles Hinton is the only player who started any games for the Wolverines last season, and he started five games. Therefore, the Wolverines will have their work cut out for them if they want to return to the playoffs for the fourth straight season.
