Commanders Trade Receiver Jahan Dotson to NFC East Rival

This Dan Quinn's team and no longer Ron Rivera's draft.

The Washington Commanders made a surprise move Thursday morning, trading 2022 first-round draft pick Jahan Dotson and a fifth-round draft pick in 2025 to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for three 2025 picks: a third and two sevenths.

The move exemplifies that Quinn isn't afraid to re-shape the Commanders to his liking and with disregard of the tradition Rivera built. Dotson was drafted 16th overall two years ago out of Penn State, but struggled to cement himself as a No. 1 receiver. In two seasons in Washington he produced only 84 catches for 1,041 yards and 11 touchdowns.

During training camp, it became clear that rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels had much better chemistry with fourth-year receiver Dyami Brown and rookie Luke McCaffrey than with Dotson.

Without Dotson, the Commanders' pecking order at receiver looks like Terry McLaurin, Brown, McCaffrey, Olamide Zaccheaus and Jamison Crowder.

In Philly, Dotson will have to fight for playing time at a receiver position stacked with the likes of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.

The Commanders will face Dotson and the Eagles twice as NFC East foes: Nov. 14 in Philadelphia and Dec. 22 at FedEx Field.

Washington concludes its preseason schedule Sunday night against the New England Patriots before beginning the regular season Sept. 8 at Tampa Bay.
