The Phoenix Mercury suffered a close call on Friday, August 23, against the Atlanta Dream. The Dream came roaring back in the final quarter before the Mercury escaped Atlanta with an 82-80 win.

In the game, WNBA veteran Diana Taurasi caught everyone's attention after her shove involving Alisha Gray. As a result, Taurasi was whistled for a flagrant foul with less than four minutes left in the game.

Gray fell out of bounds, and after the call, Taurasi showed her disapproval of the decision from the referees.

Days later, the WNBA decided to rescind the flagrant from Taurasi, per Richard Cohen.

"Just as an FYI for everyone, the League rescinded this Flagrant foul call on Diana Taurasi after the review process," Cohen wrote. "Only flagrant that's been rescinded all season."

It was a bit of a surprising decision, especially since this is the first flagrant that has been rescinded all year in the WNBA.

On the other hand, Taurasi has been involved in plenty of situations such as these in her career.

Taurasi is second in the WNBA in flagrant fouls behind only Chicago Sky star Chennedy Carter.

Taurasi was suspended in 2017 after hitting Dearica Hamby. This year, she is on the cusp of receiving a one-game suspension. Per the WNBA, a player with seven technicals will receive a one-game ban.

All in all, it's a bit surprising to see the WNBA rescind Taurasi's flagrant, especially since they hadn't done that before in the 2024 campaign.
