Former Star WR at LSU Signing With 49ers: Report

The NFL's 53-man roster deadline came and went on Tuesday. Among the more notable names on the chopping block was former LSU star wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr.

The 24-year-old was originally drafted in the second round by the Carolina Panthers in 2021, but his talent didn't translate to much on-field production over his first three pro seasons.

Now, he'll have a chance to start fresh with a new and improved team entering the 2024 regular season.

According to a report from NFL insider Jordan Schultz on Wednesday, August 28, Marshall is signing with the San Francisco 49ers one day after being let go by Carolina .

The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder was a star during his three-year collegiate career at LSU, racking up 23 combined touchdowns in his final two seasons in 2019 and 2020.

Despite the school's prowess for developing elite NFL pass catchers — Odell Beckham Jr., Justin Jefferson, Ja'Marr Chase, Jarvis Landry to name a few — Marshall stood out.

Marshall's NFL stat sheet has paled in comparison, though, with only 1 career touchdown in 36 NFL games to date.

He faces an uphill climb to stick on the reigning NFC champions' roster amid the likes of Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings and 2024 first-round pick Ricky Pearsall.

Still, the raw talent is there.
