Deion Sanders Reveals Unexpected Change Ahead of Week 1

As we have learned over the last year or so, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders is not your ordinary college football coach.

He built his roster through the transfer portal, openly embraces social media in all of its glory, has a unique relationship with the local media and has his own theme music. The latter is something that he is changing for what appears to be the first time during his coaching tenure.

In a video posted to social media on Wednesday, Sanders could be seen telling his squad that he wants the leaders of the team to pick the song.

"The leaders right now, it's not going to be my theme song," Sanders said . "This year, it's going to be y'alls. Okay, so y'all got to tell me. Leaders, y'all got to tell me what you want. How do you want to get down? That's going to be what we do.

"Y'all, this is going to be a player-led team," Sanders added. "If you can get us in the right direction, you got that?

When Sanders first took the job at Colorado, he met with the band director and the dance team, with the hopes of implementing his theme song from his previous tenure at Jackson State.

“At HBCUs, it’s kind of traditional that the bands kind of coincides,” Sanders said last February. “I know it’s a difference, but it don’t have to be. We like one big happy family.

“We’re probably gonna have a new theme song," Sanders said, "that I want you guys to get and it’s not hard. And I think you can knock it out of the park.”

While the video itself never revealed the song, most had a guess as to what it was. During his time as the head coach at Jackson State, Sanders would end speeches asking for his theme music. Right after the request, "Here I Go" by Mystikal would play.

In terms of who is picking the song, Sanders will be relying on the "leaders" of the team which is his version of captains. Rather than the traditional "C" on their jerseys, they will have an "L." Colorado also has "D" patches for players who Sanders deems to be "dawgs."

It's unclear what the selection of the song was, but we will likely find out Thursday night, Aug. 29, when they play against North Dakota State.
